If you don’t have God to turn to, you feel worthless

Many years ago I saw an interview during suicide prevention week. A professional was being asked why suicide was rising amongst the youth. And though she was not a Christian she said students today are told that they are the centre of the universe that their importance is everything and that they can do anything they want and be anything they want. They are taught self-esteem.
But, she said, they are also taught that there is no God – so when the truth hits them they feel completely alone. They know that they don’t have within them all the resources they really need. They were told empty words that left them feeling desolate.
Since they don’t have God to turn to they feel hopeless and worthless. Life doesn’t make sense unless we know we are chosen by God, designed by Him to have deep relationship. It is in knowing we are loved and valued by our Father that we know our worth.
Because God loves me
I have value
Because He calls me
I have purpose
Because He knows me
I have identity
Because He chooses me
I belong
He Has Loved You The Whole Time

You may feel unknown by any in this world, like there are none who truly understand you. You may feel the pain of being unloved, unappreciated, neglected and even rejected. Yet under all this turmoil is the child that you truly are inside. The child that is known fully and completely by the One who was there with you the whole time…before you were born even.
He has never not been there. He knows the best and worst about you. And He has LOVED YOU the whole time. Even though you may not understand Him. You may have treated Him like He didn’t exist…like He didn’t really matter to your life. He was still there. He never left. He waited.
And He waits still for you to open your eyes to His presence. To see His open arms to you. To meet His gaze. You may now feel unworthy to do so, realising He loves you the way you wanted to be loved all along. And you didn’t even glance His way. Or maybe you saw Him and pushed Him away. But He didn’t go far. He didn’t reject you even when you rejected Him. Because the pain you caused Him He already carried when He died on the cross. And it died with Him.
Now He reaches out His hand to you and says, “Will you join me in Life? Will you leave your lonely life? Will you accept the value I place on your life…my own Life for yours? Will you receive my love? Then come and let me fill you. I will never leave you. We will be together forever.”
Yahweh, you have searched me,
and you know me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up.
You perceive my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down,
and are acquainted with all my ways.

Pastor Jeff’s Special Today: “Envy”
Proverbs 14:30 says: ” A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.“ Other texts on envy include Job 5:2, Psalm 37:1, Proverbs 24:19-20, Ecclesiastes 4:4, Galatians 5:26 and James 3:14-16.
The Holy Spirit fruit of kindness cures envy by placing the desire to help others and to advance Messiah’s Kingdom above the old stronghold; the old intense desire to have an item that someone else possesses. 1 Peter 2:1 says: ” Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” And there is no better verse on rejecting envy than 1 Corinthians 13:4:“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up…”
But being candid with yourself and the Holy Spirit, is envy an old issue needing to be confessed? And then repented of ? Do you think His Word is only for the disciples 2,000 years ago? Do you have any residue of envy as an issue for such a time as this? Is this envy connected to your upbringing as a child? Was it a family pattern in any way?
God bless you as you seek His Holy Spirit Wisdom and Comfort on this issue. May you go forward on His path, “perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1).
